Product description:
The Oniscus asellus are woodlice appreciated in bioactive terrariums for their usefulness and robustness. They help break down organic waste (dead leaves, decaying wood, food scraps) and contribute to keeping the substrate cleaner and more stable.
Bigger and often more visible than several other species, they are perfect if you want a microfauna that is easy to observe, while still being effective as a “cleanup crew,” especially in well-established terrariums with plenty of leaf litter.
Quantity: 15
Highlights:
Good “cleanup crew”: consumes plant debris and decomposing matter
A more visible and interesting species for display terrariums
Likes setups rich in leaves and decaying wood
Robust if the humidity gradient is respected
Easy to maintain in most well-established bioactive setups
Tips & Parameters:
Humidity: medium to high (they like a good moist area, but a drier zone is important).
Tip: maintain a gradient (a moist zone + a drier zone).
Temperature: around 18–26°C (tolerant; more stable breeding under constant conditions).
Food:
continuous leaf litter (base)
supplements: vegetable pieces, La Swamp woodlouse food, etc. (in small amounts)
Calcium: always have a source available (cuttlefish bone, calcium, well-dried eggshells, etc.)
Warning: they greatly appreciate decaying wood and a good layer of leaves. Avoid overfeeding (mold/mites) and ensure proper ventilation.
