Product description:
Khaya leaves (mahogany family) are a perfect tropical botanical for creating a natural leaf litter, both in bioactive terrariums and blackwater-inspired aquariums. Once moistened or submerged, they gradually soften and release tannins and other organic compounds that contribute to a more "tropical forest" atmosphere.
In aquariums, they help to tint the water (depending on dosage), support the microfauna and biofilm (a grazing source for shrimp/snails), and provide hiding spots and resting areas. In terrariums, they enrich the decor, create microhabitats, and nourish the living cycle as they decompose.
Highlights:
100% natural (size/color variations possible)
Ideal for bioactive terrariums : litter, hiding spots, microfauna support
Highly appreciated in natural/blackwater aquariums : tannins + biofilm
Provides a tropical forest look and ground structure
Gradual decomposition: nourishes the ecosystem over time
Usage (terrarium):
Place the leaves on the surface (on the substrate) to create a litter layer.
Combine them with other botanicals (bark, pods, cones) to multiply microhabitats.
In bioactive setups: let the microfauna (isopods/collembolans) do the work; replace as needed.
Usage (aquarium):
Rinse the leaves quickly.
Optional: pre-soak for 12–24 hours (or boil for 1–2 minutes) if you want them to sink faster and/or reduce initial coloration.
