Product description:
The Porcellio scaber “Lava” are woodlice highly valued in bioactive terrariums, both for their unique appearance and their effectiveness. They help break down organic waste (dead leaves, decaying wood, food scraps, small molds) and contribute to keeping the substrate cleaner and more stable.
Active and generally more visible than micro-species, they are perfect for terrariums where you want a useful and interesting microfauna to observe, with a good leaf litter and a moisture gradient.
Quantity: 15
Highlights:
Good “cleanup crew”: consumes plant debris, decomposing matter, and small molds
Attractive variety (Lava) for display terrariums
Often active and quite visible species
Helps stabilize the bioactive substrate in the long term
Excellent choice for well-established terrariums with plenty of leaves
Tips & Parameters:
Humidity: medium (they like a moist area but need a drier zone).
Tip: maintain a gradient (a moist zone + a drier zone).
Temperature: around 18–26°C (tolerant; more stable breeding under constant conditions).
Food:
continuous leaf litter (base)
supplements: vegetable pieces, La Swamp woodlouse food, etc. (in small amounts)
Calcium: always have a source available (cuttlefish bone, calcium, well-dried eggshells, etc.)
Warning: Porcellio scaber can be very greedy: avoid overfeeding (mold/mites). Always keep decomposing leaves/wood available to reduce interest in very tender plants.
