Product description:
Catappa Leaves in 0.5 oz format are natural elements derived from the Indian almond tree (Terminalia catappa), featuring a curved design and a sturdy texture. A true staple of aquatic and bioactive environments, they add an authentic and functional touch to decorations while promoting the well-being of wildlife.
They allow to:
Provide exploration and resting areas for microfauna, shrimp, and small fish (the leaves create excellent shaded zones and secure shelters on the bottom)
Serve as a substrate for biofilm development and beneficial microorganisms, forming an essential basic food source for baby shrimp, isopods, and springtails
Structure the decor with a realistic “tropical” or “natural forest” look by forming a very aesthetic natural leaf litter carpet
Advantages of La Swamp Catappa Leaves:
100% natural, chemical-free, carefully selected for their quality
Ideal for tropical terrariums, bioactive setups, paludariums, and freshwater aquariums (one of the best natural water conditioners)
Strong antifungal and antibacterial properties thanks to their high tannin content, which helps strengthen the immune system of fish/shrimp and prevent mold in humid environments
Slowly degrade, releasing beneficial tannins that slightly acidify the water and give it a beautiful natural amber color
Recommended use:
In terrariums: place on the moist substrate to create a protective leaf litter and provide a lasting pantry for your microfauna.
In aquariums: add directly to the tank. They will float for 1 to 2 days before sinking on their own. For quick immersion and to release the initial excess tannins, you can boil them for a few minutes before introduction.
Lifespan:
Catappa leaves gradually decompose over several weeks to months depending on the activity of your detritivores or aquatic population, leaving at the end only a delicate skeleton of plant fibers that the microfauna will finish consuming.
