Ceylon cinnamon bark (Cinnamomum verum) is a very popular botanical in the aquarium hobby, particularly appreciated by enthusiasts of shrimp (Neocaridina, Caridina), catfish, bettas, and blackwater aquariums (blackwater).

Unlike ordinary Cassia cinnamon, true Ceylon cinnamon is safe for aquatic life (free from high levels of coumarin). It comes in tapered, textured pieces of bark that provide a unique natural look while offering numerous benefits for the aquatic environment.

Benefits for the aquarium:
Biofilm development (Shrimp food): When submerged, the bark gradually becomes covered in biofilm rich in microorganisms, providing a continuous natural food source for shrimp, fry, and snails.

Usage & preparation instructions:
Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove surface dust.

Pre-soaking / Boiling (recommended): Boil the pieces for 5 to 10 minutes or soak them in water for 24 hours. This allows the wood to become waterlogged so it sinks easily and initiates the gentle release of tannins.

Place the pieces directly on the substrate or between your rocks and roots.

Tip:
The bark decomposes very slowly over several months, providing a durable grazing surface for your animals.
