It is used with gravel when setting up a planted freshwater aquarium. It absorbs nutrients and makes them readily available to the roots of plants. A thin layer under the gravel bed ensures healthy, long-term plant growth.
The plant growing medium is completely neutral and will not affect the pH or KH of its host aquarium.
